from sky eye chopper 13, you can see it is having an impact on what is normally a very busy stretch of joppa road. it's a two-block stretch between bel air road and 7 quarts drive. entirely shut down now, in the middle of rush hour. all because of this water main break. >> reporter: inside nottingham dental care, no running water at all, means an empty waiting room and patients. >> without the water, we can't run equipment. so we have to reschedule all afternoon patients. so it's quite a big inconvenience, for myself are for myself, for patients that took off work to come in. >> reporter: the problems all stem from this hole in the ground, caused by a break in a 12-inch pipe, running under joppa road. that break occurred monday night, as the crews did some scheduled work at the towson reservoir. >> some involves were being opened and closed, maneuvered. and that caused a pressure surge in the line, which sent a pressure surge to a pumping station. >> reporter: the effects on the

pumping station caused a widespread water outage monday night. it's now repaired. but the busted pipe remains a problem for some businesses. like optometrist mary ellen paducey. >> patients who need to be able to wash their hands, need to be able to wash hands before touching eyes. make its a little difficult. >> reporter: and regular shampoos are for now out of the question. >> we're making the best of it. we could have closed. they're being great. and we thank them. there's not much we can do. >> back out live, with -- live look from sky eye chopper 13. crews are hoping they can have this water main repaired, sometime overnight, with a goal of being completed, certainly by the morning. ask then after that, the goal would be to come in and have the county department of public

works crews, getting ready to make repairs to some of the damage this water main created to the road here. we're live in perry hall, derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. >> derek, thank you the. for now, traffic is being rerouted around that stretch of joppa road. updating the breaking news we've been following all evening. a woman shot in east baltimore. as sky eye chopper 13 was over the scene in the 1800 block of abbott court are as police were searching for evidence. it happened just before 4:00 this afternoon. we do not have word on the condition of the victim or any arrests so far. no bail tonight for the woman, a baltimore woman, accused of stabbing another woman to death at a cookout. mary is in the newsroom with more on the fatal confrontation. mary? >> denise, it all started when one woman drove to her ex- husband's apartment. that's when police say 32-year- old latricia gowdy stabbed -- grand a beer bottle and threatened 30-year-old gabrielle smith with it. smith then allegedly pulled out

a knife and stabbed gowdy. she died of internal bleeding. smith is being hold without bail on a second-degree murder charge. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much, mary. police did recover the murder weapon. a $150 million lawsuit against a baltimore county hospital and one of its doctors is now in the hands of the jury. the mont-long case involves a physician once called the best heart doctor in the county. wjz is live at the county courthouse. rochelle ritchie has more on an important question from the jury today. rochelle? >> reporter: well, vic, the jurors started dlntding this morning. and there were already signs they are having a tough time coming up with a verdict. >> reporter: dr. mark midei is having trouble. while practicing at the st. joseph's medical center, as director of the catheterization labs. >> they were treated appropriately and with the

highest regard for their well being. >> reporter: businessman glen wineberg is one of the hundreds of patients suing medei. he is responsible for maryland live casino. he blames medei for leading him to believe he had coronary heart disease. medei has defended has actions from the beginning. >> what i did was what i would want for myself, for anybody in my family. >> reporter: it brings to light, the decision for making what is best for the patient. >> what it shows is any physician has potential malpractice liability if he does or fails to do for a patient what he or she should do. >> reporter: wineberg's attorney claims medei put stents in a man's heart, where they don't think. medei fires back, saying he had already suffered a silent heart attack and may have died if not

partly cloudy. 60 degrees in central maryland right now. the complete first warning weather forecast is coming up. a 7-year-old montgomery county girl is fighting for her life tonight, following a tragic accident. mary is joining us now with this story. mary? >> denise, police say the girl's mom hit her with her suv, as she was making a quick trip to the grocery store. and her daughter must have tried to come with her. >> reporter: the montana count -- montgomery county collision often responds to roadways, not driveways. but they went door to door, asking residents what they may have heard or seen along this stretch of concrete. >> it's shocking. totally shocking. >> reporter: police say the mother was backing out of her driveway in a mercedes suv

similar to this one, when she hit her 7-year-old daughter, at about 9:15 sunday night. the 41-year-old mother told police she didn't hear nor feel a thing. >> that mother must be devastated. >> reporter: this neighbor said the mother banged on her door, once she realized what happened, asking for help. >> she is this very, very pretty girl. >> reporter: a family member and the girl's 16-year-old sister visited the house monday afternoon. the two talked with police, went inside, and then left. >> so your life just changes. everything is great. and then something totally unexpected happens, turns your life upside down. >> reporter: police say the mercedes was equipped with a rear view camera, but say the mother may have recently disabled it for a state driver's test. >> she has to live with this memory for the rest of her life. >> reporter: police impounded mom's suv as part of the investigation. her 7-year-old daughter remains hospitalized in critical condition tonight.

denise. >> thank you, no charges have been filedded. looking into how three maryland teens were able to get dozens of boxes of ammunition. it was apparently stolen from a trailer in anne arundel county, being used in a training exercise. police pulled over three teens, with 70 boxes of ammunition, along with burglary tools. the tsa is trying to determine if proper protocols were followed. blue angels will soon be flying high in the sky again. navy said it is bringing the popular program back. as mike schuh explains, you'll see them fly over maryland. >> reporter: here in annapolis, they're considered the world's premiere demonstration flight team. five months ago, when politicians couldn't agree on funding the government and the cuts known as sequestration kicked in, they were grounded. no joy that the graduation air show was canceled. it's been three years since

they last performed here. two years ago, an improperly performed maneuver and practice led to a safety standdown. and last year, the graduation date was moved and the team was already booked. now the show must go on, much to the delight of lindsey shepis. >> they're amaze happening. it's amazing to watch. i got to see a lot of photos. a guy i -- babysat for is an angel. >> neil gusman is an army journalist. >> i'd love to see them. i'd love to bring my kids down. visix kids, but two still at home. i'd love to have my kids see them. >> reporter: simon says this is one of the few times, civilians can hear what it's like to be in combat. >> to see these things and to be close up and for it to be a show and be enjoyable is great for everybody. >> reporter: during their upcoming season, the blue angels will not only visit here

the gun from his home. now, police are releasing the frantic 911 calls for help. teresa garcia reports with more. >> reporter: chaos and fear can be heard on emergency calls made during monday's shooting. >> 911 emergency. >> students at sparks middle school. can you please send police down here. there's a kid with a gun. >> officers were on the scene in three minutes. >> we're inside the cafeteria, where the students have been huddled. so they're safe here. we're looking for the shooters now. >> reporter: about 700 were starting the school day, when a classmate opened fire. teachers scrambled to get students inside. >> we had a gun pointed at them. so we're locked down on the building. >> police say as many as 30 children witnessed the violence. >> i got a dude down that has been shot. >> copy. teacher down. >> teacher down. >> reporter: the boy shot and killed two students and shot a popular 8th grade teacher,

michael lansbury, and then fatally shot himself in the head. >> we have a guy with a gun. down with a headshot wound. >> the shooter made a chilling remark to his classmate. >> he pointed to us and then said, you ruined my life. and i'm going to ruin yours. >> reporter: police say the boy got the gun from his home. teresa garcia, wjz eyewitness news. >> police say the parents of the juvenile shooter are cooperating with investigators, and they do not plan to identify the boy, out of respect for his grieving family. grammy award-winning singer and songwriter, selo green appears in court, pacing -- facing charges. >> reporter: denise, a woman says selo green slipped ecstasy in her drink during a dinner date. then he sexually assaulted her at her hotel room. prosecutors did not charge him with rape, saying there was not enough evidence, but he is

being charged for allegedly giving the woman drugs. and green could potential leface up to four years in prison if convicted. back to you. >> all right. thank you, mary. green pleaded not gety to the charges against him. new developments in the mystery sounding a young girl, found living in a gypsy settlement in greece. a u.s. family is among dozens who think that the child, known as maria, could be their daughter. alphonso van marsh reports for wjz with more. >> reporter: a greek children's charity says it has identified eight missing children from around the world, who could be the girl known as maria. the smile the child charity has been caring for maria since police arrested, then charged a man and woman with kidnapping her. a kansas city couple says maria strongly resembles their daughter, lisa irwin, who was taken during a home invasion in 2011. they've contacted greek authorities with an image of how lisa may look today. however, lisa would only be about 3 years old now.

the greek charity says maria is closer to 5 or 6. a greek prosecutor says a child psychiatrist and language translator will speak with maria to learn more about where she's from. police became suspicious because maria looks nothing like the people in the room, a room where the egyptian found her. >> she said here in greece, there are rumors that romas steal children and send them to beg on the streets. the accused couple admit they adopted maria illegally, but deny they are involved in child trafficking. alphonso van marsh, wjz eyewitness news remember. >> at least one greek school administrator says roma children are skipping classes, fearing that police will come and take them away. santony's supermarket will close its doors for good, later tonight. the owner of the highlandtown fixture. the mayor disputes that the tax is the sole reason the store is

mistakenly went the wrong way down route 50. all three died in a head-on crash. now, federal officials are trying to stop tragedies like those. >> reporter: they've launched a new campaign called 5 to drive. outlining the five rules every parent should have for their teenage driver. >> it's very important that parents set background rules or more importantly, or yellly important, i should say, it's important that parents good role models. >> reporter: no extra passengers, no speed being, no alcohol, and no driving without a seat belt. behavior often seen on the roads. >> it's scary how many people you see driving on the moy and on their phones. >> reporter: young drivers we spoke with say they think the rules are a good idea. >> as a driver being i try to avoid doing those things because obviously it's unsafe. >> reporter: avoiding risky moves to help save lives. >> reporter: and triple a also recommends driving with your teen in more challenging situations like bad weather and heavy traffic.

arson investigators are looking into a huge fire in an apartment complex in colorado. you can see the fire completely consumed the building. several cars were also destroyed. now, no one was hurt. but officials do suspect it was started by arson. a potentially deadly mosquito is now in southern california. the invasive species has been found in a dozen states and the health risks are troubling. bigad shaban has more on the latest infestations for wjz. >> biologist jody holman is working to eradicate. she's collected more mosquito airgs than she can count. >> as many as 192 eggs trapped there all week.

>> you found 192 eggs in just one trap? >> yes. >> and you have about 150 traps? >> that's correct. >> reporter: the white-spotted mosquito like to need on humans and and can transmit yellow fever and dengy. holman found at least 50 in her front yard. now, one has been discovered 10 miles away in fresno. so biologist tim phillips is leading a crew to warn residents. >> the nightnair is that it gets established. and we have locally transmitted disease. >> do you have any guarantee that you'll be able to stop? >> no, there is no guarantee. >> reporter: the mosquito has infested communities in at least 12 states and d.c. clovis resident, mercedes hern hernandez said her son came home with bites as the mosquitoes started popping up.

well, a week of rest for the ravens. mark is here with the wjz ports report. it's like getting your midterm before spring break. bhie week will start tomorrow after practice. coaches and players going through intense meetings meetings and analysis with extra time. three wins and four losses. ravens aren't doing as well as they would like. how about quarterback joe flacco. he's had his share of challenges in the seven games. flacco has been difficult by some of the roster changeover. anquan boldin is gone. tight end, dennis pitta is hurt. flacco is flowing the ball to a group of younger, less experienced players. and his offensive coordinator, though, says he likes how

flacco is handling the transition. >> he's been working through with some new guys. new faces. i think that process is going along well. and every think day. we got better today. a little better. and a lot of it is because of him. he's really, i think, done a good job of developing a ra port. and you're going to see him continue to grow and get better. that was ravens' offensive coordinator, jim caldwell. yards per completion. he is on pace to have his lowest yardage, and most interceptions from his rookie year. november's first game, november 3rd at cleveland. no reason not to like joe flacco. at least he's in better standing than at least seven other quarterbacks who made the forbes top 10 list of most disliked players in a fans survey. eagles quarterback michael vic was quoted number 1 most

disliked. and steelers qb ben roethlisberger. he is the fourth most disliked player in the league. a two-time super bowl champ among ravens nemesis. coming from his prior off field problems. patriots qb, tom brady is on the list -- 8th least liked. so seems like some are shared leaguewise. randy edsel likes his quarterback. but he's not sure if cj brown will be the starter if the terps play clemson in college park. brown started past saturday, but ended in the sidelines second half. brown apparently suffered an injury in the lost at wake. but edsel is not saying what this injury is, only that it's not related to the the concussion that brown suffered two weeks prior. brown and row are listed as costarters. maryland meets clemson at birds stadium saturday, in the homecoming game at 3:30. back to business for
